History

Skriaig appears on the map in the PO Telecommunications Journal, Winter 74/75 though is not labelled. Links ran to Benbecula (via Scoval), Gairloch and "Kyle". Unusually the site features two "Type 4A" towers of different heights and buildings of two different styles - one is typical of the Highlands and Islands scheme but the other is similar to the standard flat-roofed type used in the main SHF network.

A list of future developments as of November 1976 includes Drumfearn - Skriaig (and Drumfearn - Tobermory) and this route appears on a map of the planned UK digital network in 1988, together with the original three links at Skriaig. It seems likely the shorter tower is the original and perhaps the taller structure was added in the late 1970s in connection with the Drumfearn link, which may also account for the additional building. Unfortunately old OS maps for the period of interest are not available.

Current Ofcom data suggests 6 GHz links operate over three of the routes. There is no longer a link to Kyle of Localsh (where the tower is apparently empty).
