History

Stonebridge Park appears on a document showing the links at the Post Office tower in 1968. It is described "6 GHz Stonebridge Park, Television, 6 miles". The site was also known as Wycombe Road. According to TV Studio History the building was originally established by Intertel as an outside broadcast base, including a small studio. Following acquisition by London Weekend Television, in 1969, LWT began to use the studio. Intertel subequently merged with TVR to form "TVI" and vacated the site. Prior to this the studio had been hired by Yorkshire TV on an occasional basis. It may be the 6 GHz link dates from this period - a photo on the Studio History page shows a single dish, assumed to provide a direct link to the PO Tower.

The building with the link dish was shared with BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service) which had offices and a radio studio. LWT continued to use the site into the early 1980s, before selling to a (TV) camera rental company in 1984. The studio remained operational for some time but from 1989 was used as storage by Lee Electric (film/theatre lighting). Lee Electic vacated the site in 2008 and by 2012 the buildings had been demolished. The short lattice tower for the dish was still in place when Street View passed in August 2008.

The SHF link may have "retired" some time before the studio: a late 1970s network diagram for the London TV Network Switching Centre shows cable circuits running via Harlsden, Kensal Green, Cricklewood and Lords. Possibly this was to allow the 6 GHz channels to be released for use on the main routes.
