History

Flimwell was an intermediate site on the route from London to France via Tolsford Hill - this also carried vision circuits used by Southern Television and successor companies.

Construction started during 1967 but the first antenna was not installed until late 1969. In the interim the existing trunk cables between London and Dover continued to be used. Additional capacity was added during the 1970s, with digital links introduced in the 1980s.

The site is typical for the era: the standard style of building and a "standard tower" incorporating platforms for horn antennas. Due to the delay in completion it is unlikely any were installed.

By 2009 the large dishes had been cleared and from a distance the tower appears empty.
