History
Fiennes appears on the lists of PO and BT sites although situated in France. In practice it would have been owned and maintained by the French PTT and their successors.
The station initially served as a link for cross-channel telephone and television traffic from 1959. At the time the French television system operated with 819-lines and the UK with 405-lines requiring a conversion at each end. The equipment at Fiennes was of French manufacture, and that at Tolsford Hill of UK origin but both working to an agreed common standard.
It is not known whether the current concrete structure at Fiennes was the original - it seems unlikely - further research will be undertaken when possible.
