History
Burnham was otherwise known as the coastal station "Portishead Radio" which had been at the site since 1928. The SHF link tower was added by BT apparently in the 1980s along with a major extension to the facilities. We now understand this was to allow remote control of receivers located at Somerton and probably did not provide any connectivity to the main SHF network. Analysis of the photo suggests the link ran via the "Mendip" television mast - known to BT as Penhill.
Portishead Radio closed in April 2000 and the site has been redeveloped for housing - no trace remains.
